I decided the 2nd option of the menu on the left worked best. aesthetically it is a more simplistic design and gives the image/work space.

I decided on the left centered composition to create a better sense of order so the page reads more easily.

I was originally thinking of having large images in the center, the menu as a footer and a subtle background texture of woven fabric. After trying this out i realised that it was difficult to make sharp edged boxes to look good against a textured background.

simple and clear, click on the images to enter each gallery.

preview snippet images down right side, logo and email on right side to suggest the square format. clicking anywhere on the page enters into the first gallery. I am then in control of what work/gallery the viewer sees first.

I decided to have my name handwritten for my logo because i think it represents my aesthetic well, i will try to match this with a default font in my web page so it is easier to update, plus my handwritting changes all the time so matching the same writing when updating type in the future would be difficult.

These were my origional step#3 ideas. they were just a development step towards my final in the blog below... just thort id better put them in.

this page design is so so nice! the subtle colours are soft and don't distract from the content. the actual placing of the menu and other tags are really nice and create a very user friendly page that is easy to navigate.
the menu drops down to show the links and the image below fades out which is very nice.

the layout and style of this site is very nice. im not so sure about the caption boxes covering the images or the horizontal scrolling. I do like the sites function, colour pallet and simple display.

i like this portfolio because the menu on the right fuctions really nicely, with a drop down effect and title colour changes. the arrow with a thumbnail to the next piture appears when hovering over the main image.

seriously tho i do like this site design, the central box, again, and the use of the font.

this portfolio site is so beautiful. it clean and fresh with great navigation. the gallery page is particularly nice with a fading effect as the curser hovers over the images.
I like how in the closeup of the images threre are just two small arrows down the lefthand corner as links.

when you hover over the menu bar the icons are animated which is cute. I like the border and simple background pattern. The colours evoke a cute childish mood.

the set header and footer on this site create a oblong horizonal composition which i like. the menu is in the footer. I also think they have got the scale of all the elements and colour palette right.

I just stumbled upon this site. the inverse white text on black back ground looks very strong and sophisticated. I do really like this inverted idea so i may change one of my moodboards to try this aesthetic.

this site has the same inverse white on black. the treatment of the font and layout of the menu is interesting. i like the scrolling within the box, and the use of arrows rather than an ugly default scrollbar.

Umbrella prints are a hand screen printed textile company based in south australia. Their new web page is a big improvement on the previous one, the simple central placement of the images looks nice and all the colours of the different design sit nicely together.
In the old webpage design i do like the dotted line breaks in the right side menu.

more moodboard play

just thought, as this is my workbook, i should put in all my attempts a making the moodboards...
These are not my finals they are just from me trying things out.

^I was really wanting to do something with brown paper but i didn't like the look of the frame. I do like the stapled on side tags tho.

^ I was going for a more simple digital look with the font and more structured layout. Also looking a having a more subtle background fabric teture running horizontally through the centre. The font would be the default ariel so that all computer types could see it.

I am not so fond of the third one. but i do like the pin board, tactile feeling that it evokes.

I do like the second one although not too sure about the vase and flower, bu t it does aid in evoking a the mood and aesthetic feminine style of the site.

Lee Jofa is an interior textile company. I found them through looking at them on the Mokum website.

Their website had the whole slideshow with images fading in and out to each other, which i find really tiring to look at. I didn't like the maroon background colour throughout the site, i find it an interesting colour choice as it doesnt complement all their designs. So a good example of how consideration of the background is so important.

I do like the wee picture icons down the right menu, and alot of their style shots are very appropriate for fabrics.

^ this is a header from the white book site. the use of black and white looks very sophisticated and striking. the font for the logo is very successful, especially how the words like through the h, h, b. The logo os also a link back to the home page.
as the cursor hovers over the menu the words become a bolder white. the menu titles are separated by a fullstop rather than spaces, for a full menu like this i think it works nicely.

The direction of the text in the menu bar up the left works well and is something i havn't seen elsewhere, i like how the words are different colours rather than having spaces to separate them.
The inverse green on black links on the right are separeted and on slight angles to each other, i like this and think its position against the magazine work well with the style of the magazine.

moodboard ONE

In my first mood board i wanted to evoke a soft, natural, minimal mood. using interior fabric textures (eg. sheeting cloth in background), pegs and pins hint on a feminine domestic theme. Text to be written by hand to keep that natural rather than graphic feel.

The background image in this site is textile related, i am thinking i would also like to do something like this with a fabric or weave texture in the background. The background on this site, to me, clashes with the header, although, once you scroll down, the pearl colour looks really nice with the white center.




object magazine's website is bold and very visual. The background picture changes as new pages open which maintains an interest when viewing the site and encourages the viewer to open all pages. The use of a bold background image is at first attention grabbing but i think that as these designs are very busy they are a little distracting from the main content on the page.

There is an icon down the right panel that once clicked on opens the page to fill the screen which is very cool!
